nucleic acids

Highly complex portions of nucleoproteins that yield a mixture of purines and pyrimidines, a ribose or deoxyribose component, and phosphoric acid on complete hydrolysis. The two general types are ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
